SMTF Weekly Meeting February 2, 2006 Minutes: Hasan Summarizing TB discussion 4 accel(received) 4 US being made (AES) 2 Jlab main goal 35 MV/m for cryomodule 2 Niobium 50% 50% large grain versus small grain agreed upon. Harry (enough material for 6) long versus short decision? cryomodule 3 will likely be short-what should length be? Is this number known-is it tuner choice dependent? Choose something we will live with. Not necessarily tied to RDR. Hasan's suggestion to Shekhar is he should place the order, will be able to adjust length later (may come after info from tuner performance) 283 mm between cavities. Franco Bedeschi reports there are planned tests on a blade tuner at DESY-Chechia Carlo Pagani What shape? LL RE or regular shape --use regular Tesla shape is answer-dark current from other shapes not measured so keep focus on R1 goal 35 MV /m. Only tested single cell so far-easy to clean single cell and new shapes have 20% higher E field. Harry Presentation: Transparencies available on URL. Form T4CM international team to advance design, create work pacakages, and establish a timeline. Carlo P. Type 4 documentation and fabrication by end of 2006 (team of 4) Franco Bedeschi --ramp up on cryomodule work after 4 months (finish up CMS work) 2 cold masses from Zanon-one for 35MV/m test at DESY and one for first US cryomdoule Norito Ohuchi--KEK building two 4 cavity test vessels-get involved with ILC cryomdoule design at Phase II of STF Americas T4CM Design Team- about 8 engineers led by Harry Don Mitchell blade tuner design--Carlo has a modified design Length--iris to iris 283 mm iris to end of flange 105.6 mm type 4 all components ready for assembly for one of these units cryomodule 2 is type 3+ -- US 10 cavities-will not reach 35 expect 25 no need for americanization by buying Zanon cold mass DESY kit--sealed dressed Fermi assembles type 3+ early 07 second one DESY and KEK plans page 36-38 Of HArry's presentation. 8 tons is weight of one cryomodule. Organization will be work packages with regional coordinators Were the goals met?: Largely yes. Franco B. -meeting great success-team of experts feeling very good and energized engineers want to work together work on type 4 is "starting up again" Milano meeting at Pisa next week-slowly, but very good feeling Harry Plan to Meet by video once per two weeks and get together face to face every two months Goal is to get design engineers together. Let them solve problems. John Mammosser Of the 4 Accel cavities, 2 cavities are at Cornell 2 are at Fermilab best effort is 4 cavities in FY06 first do light chemistry to see everything is OK. Hasan - will BCP first cavity lightly (100 microns)in next two week- vertical test 20-25 will check for field flatness and freq. original plan-repeat and repeat and repeat? Warren - we should be loose on requirements-20% may be OK. Hasan-should we get rid of hydrogen bake at 800 C? Then we tune it. Fermilab has the bead pull. Harry building tool for one cell tuning- Hasan says he prefers to send cavity back to Fermilab for tuning and firing? Hasan suggests to fire cavity after EP. Goal is to finish by end of February and send to JLAB. John worries that heavy BCP makes it hard to get a smooth surface with EP. Hasan says BCP will find poor performing cavities-really a filter at this point Will not test with HOMS.-blank it off. John would prefer we fire before EP. Then another light EP will be necessary? Aluminum seals: Harry, no vendor yet. Hasan: Hasan ordered from same place as DESY Peter K. Thinks it makes sense what Hasan is doing. Axel will send 5 to JLAB. Shekhar,--- Hasan, please order more for everyone! John: What is plan for shipping? Hasan: Do we need tight loop on EP? Shekhar--yes Hasan: We do not need tight loop on BCP? Only EP. What are torque specs for cavities? What is the repair process on a damaged flange? Tug will go to DESY and work with Axel for two weeks and will try to answer these questions. John M. Plan: get statistics on their RF tests using cavity S-35. S-35 BCP+EP 11 times performance ranged from 13 MV to 30MV now at 23MV 5 or 6 chemistries -- 338 microns removed. John Mammosser--Christian Boffo is his Fermilab technical contact Sergei Feb 13,14 GDE meeting at Fermilab-some stay overs for the 15th deflecting cavities Cristian March 17th Materials Workshop at MSU - Pierre Bauer Minutes taken by Nigel
